Obituary of Maureen Poscente
October 7, 1928 - Vancouver, British Columbia
October 14, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Maureen Poscente (nee Patmore), beloved wife of the late Julio Poscente, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the age of 95 years.
Maureen was born in Vancouver, BC on October 7, 1928. She spent her early childhood in Prince Rupert, BC and later moved to Victoria. In the early 1950’s, Maureen moved to Calgary, as a student of art at Tech, now ACAD. One afternoon while window shopping downtown, she met Jules Poscente under the arches of the Hudson’s Bay store. They were married October 6, 1951 and soon were raising three sons.
Maureen sincerely endeavoured to be a thoroughly dedicated mother and meticulous homemaker. She had a keen eye for the artistic and a natural flair for style. Her skill with cursive handwriting is almost legendary!
Affectionately referred to as Nonni by her six grandchildren, perhaps her favourite adventure was house boating with them on the Shuswap Lakes on a houseboat lovingly christened the Nonni Mo.
Maureen is survived by her sister Jackie Patmore in Victoria and her three sons, Kai (Helen Yuen) in Calgary, Jay (Helen) in Nanoose Bay, BC, and Lee in Calgary.
Maureen is also survived by Kai's children, Chiara (Zak Maytum) in Pierce Colorado, JJ (Julio Joseph) in Calgary, Luca (Cassandra Matvenko) in Calgary, and their children, Olenna and Caulder; Kai's stepsons, Franklin Yuen-Buchanan in Calgary and Christian (Satory Adams) Yuen-Buchanan in Brooklyn, NY; Jay's children, Niki (Riley) Taggart, Dallas (Wayne) Tucker, and Ashley (Nemo) Miskin, all of Calgary; Niki and Riley's children, Quinn, Mackai, Isla and Wells; by Dallas and Wayne's children, Austin and Beau; and by Ashley and Nemo's children, Zoë and Shiloh.
Maureen was predeceased by her loving husband, Julio Poscente, on December 8, 2006.
In keeping with Maureen’s wishes there will be no formal funeral or memorial. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Maureen’s family here.
