Obituary of Agnes (Pat) Tucker

Agnes (Pat) Tucker passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the age of 103, surrounded by family. She was predeceased in 2003 by her husband of 57 years, Len.

Pat was born and grew up in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. When World War II broke out, Pat worked for the British Admiralty, moving to the south of England. The blitz of London made Pat a strong, self-confident young woman. Friday, August 13^th, 1940, was, according to Pat, the luckiest day of her life. It was that day Pat met a tall, handsome Canadian serviceman for the first time. That man, Leonard Gordon Tucker, turned out to be the love of her life. At war's end, November, Pat confidently boarded a troop ship, sailed the North Atlantic for three long days, landed in Halifax, and then took a five-day train ride across Canada to Calgary where Len was waiting. They were soon married and together raised a family of three children: Ian, Valerie, and Alan.

Pat enjoyed sewing, knitting and square dancing. Her strong belief in community support was reflected in her volunteer work for the church and organizations like Scouts Canada and Girl Guides. Her passion for gardening led to decades of membership in the Calgary Horticultural Society; annually helping with their garden and flower shows.

The main focus of Pat's life though, was family. This included six grandchildren, Ian and Sandie's children, Karlene, Chris (Jenn) and Craig (Michelle), Valerie and Doug's children, Tara (Rich) and Robb, and Alan and Margot's daughter, Chyna. The time came when Pat was the most amazing head of the family which included seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Connor, Aidan, Hayley, Merick, Jaxson, and Edmund.

Pat's first query was always, “Is everyone OK?”, followed by detailed questions about happenings and interests of each of the family members.

Through words and actions, Pat taught the importance of love, family, and commitment to community. She was a truly amazing, loving person and will be greatly missed by many people.
