Obituary of Ruby Doreen Keller
Ruby Doreen Keller (Slous) was born on October 10, 1939 in Whitewood, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on October 16, 2023. Mom grew up in Austin and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and moved to Calgary when she was 20. There she met and married her life partner of 62 years. Surviving Ruby are her husband Fred, daughter Karen (Dwayne), sons Greg (Jessie) and Brian (Harold) as well as her four grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, (Luke), Spencer, Braden, and her great-granddaughter Lily June. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Edie Slous, Dick and Bev Keller, Dave Keller, Laurie Legge, Doug and Gail Keller, Vicki Keller, Larry and Lori Keller, Val Stanton as well as her life-long friend Pat Lee and her half sister Betty Holland (Alan). Ruby is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were very dear to her. She was predeceased by her mother Elsie Forbes, her stepfather Donald Forbes, her brothers Donald and Gordon, her sister-in-law Donna, nephew Boyd, niece Heather as well as Fred’s parents Philip Keller and Fran Miller.
The family would like to acknowledge the efforts and support of the team at the Foothills Medical Centre Emergency Department and Ruby’s longtime family physician Dr. Sheila Scott. We would also like to express our gratitude to her amazing friends Betty Bryant, Shirley Helmig, Connie Laing, and Dave Laing who have been with mom through every step of her journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Lynx Ridge Golf Club, (8 Lynx Ridge Blvd, Calgary, AB). Ruby had a bright personality and she loved informal gatherings; she would not want this celebration to be somber. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
