Obituary of Richard William Mason

November 3, 1947 - Melfort, Saskatchewan

October 22, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Richard “Rick” Mason beloved husband of Susan Mason (nee Atkinson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the age of 75 years.

Rick Mason was born in Melfort, SK, on November 3, 1947. He moved around a lot growing up, but settled in Calgary, AB, where he met his loving wife Susan and built a life with her and their three children, Trevor, Tara-Jean, and Tracie.

Rick loved spending time with his family and friends, putting smiles on their faces and making them laugh. He was happiest when he was with his family. He enjoyed camping with all his family and friends. He also loved going out on the boat to get a little fishing done. He especially loved it when there was a dog around, from his dogs growing up, and his family dog Sammy to his grand-pups. Roxy was the first one to catch his heart, that was his baby doll, then came Charlie his cuddle bear, and Lucy the jumping bean was soon to follow, and then Milo the Monster to wrap up the dogs. Then he had a couple cats that he enjoyed when he visited Trevor, Zorro and Squirt.

In his last few years when in the care home if dad was having a bad day his face would light up with the sight of a dog, whether a staff’s dog or a therapy dog or just his baby doll running to him and jumping on his lap just to give grandpa her kisses, that would make him laugh.

He loved to help people no matter who it was, as long as they had a smile on their face when they separated, he knew he had done something right.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Rick’s family here.
