Obituary of Wilf Nerrie

March 3, 1928 – Davidson, Saskatchewan

October 21, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

The legendary stories told by Wilfrid Lorne Nerrie reached their final chapter when he passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family.

Dementia may have taken Wilf’s memories, but he never forgot to show his love for each of us. Wilf was born on March 3, 1928, in Davidson, Saskatchewan. He lived with his family until he was 16 years old when he travelled to Ontario to make his own way working in mining, forestry and eventually the oil industry.

Wilf’s work took him from the Arctic to Africa and many points in between. Once retired, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, golfing, cooking, going to auctions, and being a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Wilf especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. When he and Loretta moved to AgeCare Midnapore, Wilf started a walking club, played cribbage and bingo, helped with gardening and pie making, and attended any outing that he could.

Wilf is survived by Loretta, his beloved wife of 66 years; his three children Barb (Lance) Standish, Robert (Arlene) Nerrie, and Susan (Ken) Henke; his grandchildren David Standish, Lisa Standish (Jeff Rutherford), Melissa (Nairn) Rodger, and Shane (Anu) Henke; his great grandchildren Everley, Bowen & Sullivan Rodger, Ava & Logan Rutherford, and Mila & Max Henke, as well as his sister Marguerite Owen (lovingly referred to as Marg) with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He was predeceased by his parents James and Alma; his sister Viola, and his brothers Ted, Percy, and Milt. The greatest gift Wilf had in his final years was the care and love shown to him by the staff at AgeCare Midnapore for which his family is eternally grateful. Wilf was one of a kind and will be forever missed and never forgotten.
