Obituary of Susan Lena Sheppard

February 22, 1949 - October 25, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, sister and great friend, Susan Sheppard.  Susan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 74 years of age.

Susan was born in Calgary on February 22, 1949, to George and Olive Sheppard. After graduating high school, she got a bursary to attend the School of Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta. Susan graduated in 1969 and shortly after went to work for the City of Calgary cleaning teeth for low-income families. Once Susan had children, she decided to move into private dental practice so she could have more time with her young family. Susan loved and excelled at her work as a dental hygienist, a career that spanned over 47 years.

Susan was a beautiful, loving person who devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and family. She was kind, genuine, honest, and sincere. She will forever be remembered by her laughter, natural beauty, kindness, and her friendly smile.

Susan cherished her time at Sylvan Lake with Kent and other members of the Lyle family. She always enjoyed hosting family and friends for lunch or dinner, including a couple of Sheppard family reunions.  Susan loved her quiet time sitting on the dock down by the lake having a coffee or enjoying a sunset.

Susan will be missed by her son, Michael Monument; daughter, Andrea (Ken) Kotyk; and her cherished granddaughters, Sofiya and Mysha. Susan is also survived by her twin brother, Stephen (Diane) Sheppard; two sisters, Linda McPhee and Karen (Brad) Karpuk; and her partner of 25 years, Kent Lyle.

Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday November 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception, social gathering, and celebration to follow the service 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Browns Social House (Britannia location).
