Condolences
Dear Sisters of Charity of St. Louis and the Hengel family,
I am so blessed to have known Sr Helen - first as she mentored me during a counselling practicum, and then leading a book club, and then continuing long into her stay at Providence Care as a friend who listened with great care, wisdom and a sure capacity--one who then gave generously from her font of blessing.
I felt so buoyed, enlivened, and even physically stronger each time I came away from visiting with her.
Sr. Helen lived grace and she gave generously.
Sr Helen, I will remember your gentle kindness, your tower of strength, and your faith which you showed naturally in every living moment. I am thankful for you--for your gentle, personal presence, your you (yes, along with the Trinity), the gift of you in all your gifts given--distilled into a joy in the gift of life which we can share.
I am among the many who praise God for the rich and beautiful blessings of you. I pray for all who know and love you, and the many ways your love will continue among us. In peace and love, Mary Anne (Schleinich)
My deepest and most sincere sympathy to the Hengel family. Sister Helen was the best teacher I had in High School in Radville Saskatchewan many years ago.
Aug 27 was always a special day to be in communication with Sister Helen, a remarkable, loving woman.
My sincere condolences to the Hengel family. I worked with Sister Helen as her Secretary at the University of Calgary Counselling Services in 1977. I have fond memories of Sister Helen and hold her in high regard. She was always kind, compassionate in all areas of her life. I will miss her smile and her memory will remain with me forever. May she rest in peace.
My deepest and sincere condolences to the Hengel family.
Sister Helen was a very special human being who guided many through some tough times. She had an essence about her which was remarkable and connected to all those she served. Rest easy now.

My sympathy to all the family and friends of Sr. Helen Hengel. She was a comfort to members of DASCO and at the F.C.J convent where we often met. Genevieve Janssen
My condolences to the Hengel family.
For many years Sister Helen mentored and guided me on my spiritual path.
May she rest in peace.
My condolences to the Hengel Families,
I knew Sister Helen when we both lived in an apartment building in Sunnyside in the 80's. When we saw each other in the hallway, we had many quick conversations about social issues and addictions. She was a wealth of knowledge and had incredible insight into life in general. Although we lost touch, I have remembered here on numerous occasions and our "chats." It was a privilege to know her. Take care.

Sister Helen was the most influential and helpful person in my life. I met her at the U of C in the 1970’s. Her care and compassion through the years at the FCJ Center and the many retreats she led made a significant contribution to my spiritual journey. Helen was a most beautiful soul and like so many, I loved her dearly. Rest in peace dear good and faithful servant.
Twenty three years ago Sister Helen Hengel Held the space for me to do a step 4-5.
This was an important step in my life. In starting the journey inward to cultivate a relationship with the divine within.
So I would say that Helen Lived a life of service.
Serving others assisting others To trust in their higher power and connect to something bigger than themselves
I would say that is a life showing us how we all could live.
Thank you Helen You will not be forgotten and I hold you in my heart space until we meet again
Linda Oughton
