Obituary of Allan V. Cole

May 17, 1930 - Winnipeg, Manitoba

October 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Allan Cole, beloved husband of Grace (nee Gaines) passed away peacefully October 27, 2023.

Al was born in Winnipeg on May 17, 1930, to Harold and Edith Cole. Al was the eldest of five children; Louise, Marry-Ann, Russell, and Jim. Al moved to Vancouver in his teens and attended West Van High School, where he met Grace, the love of his life. Al and Grace were married in 1951, their love story lasted over 71 years. After high school, Al joined an insurance brokerage in Vancouver; the start of his successful business career which spanned six decades and earned him the respect of co-workers, clients, and industry representatives. Many of whom became lifelong friends. He was honest, fair, polite, and had a quiet inner strength that served him so well over the years. Throughout his life he demonstrated generosity by volunteering his time and support in a variety of capacities with community and service organizations.

After living in Edmonton, Calgary and Regina, Al and Grace settled in Calgary in 1963. Along the way, three children joined the family: Richard, Leslie, and Belinda. They were followed by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild who were very fortunate to join this group that was loved so dearly by Al and Grace. Most important was his family, with Grace leading the way. Together they created a happy home with love and laughter.

Al enjoyed many things life had to offer including golfing, skiing, gardening, music, fine food, and a good drink. He felt fortunate to share these experiences with others. The family was also treated to many wonderful trips together, but it was Al and Grace that took their travel to new heights with their trips around the world. I think Al would tell us it was a life well lived with few regrets. After Grace’s passing in 2021, he missed her dearly every day. We would like to think they are together again. It was a true honour for all our family to have had him in our lives.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Allan’s family here.

Thank you to the staff at Providence Care Centre for the care and support they provided for both Al and Grace. We would also like to thank Kelle (aka the boss) Flanagan for becoming part of this family with the incredible affection and care she has provided for both Al and Grace over the past several years. He will be dearly missed.

In living memory of Allan Cole, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
