Condolences
We were sorry to learn of Jim's passing. We both taught with Jim at Beaverbrook and recall him as a calm, good-hearted person.
As a fellow resident of Brentwood, Jim shared stories of his and Christine's early days in our community when their home was one of the first on the block - and all of the rest of the street was nothing but mud! May your memories of joyful times shared with your Dad be of some comfort to you at this difficult time. Enid Holtby & Lee Hunt
Lisa, Sarah, and Alison - my deepest condolences on the passing of your father. I remember him as a kind and caring person who loved the outdoors.

Rob and Irene Moore wish to offer you our condolences to you Sarah, along with the rest of the Nielsen family and others at this sad time.
Rob and Jim first became acquainted when both taught at Lord Beaverbrook and Crescent Heights High Schools.
Years later, in retirement, we three became reacquainted yet again, when we signed up for the CBE REA Strollers walking group. It was the perfect size with about a dozen people turning up, in all weathers, on a regular basis. Everyone was warm, cheerful and friendly with jokes and stories galore to tell.
Throughut the years we discovered that 2 of our members had once been former students of your Dad and they all eventually recognized a little bit of each other. On another occasion Jim decided to bring two of his lovely daughters along. They made a great impression on our group as they described their life with their Dad along with some of their adventurous travel and educational opportunities in other countries.
Jim was always so kind, gentle and thoughtful with a wonderful sense of humour. He certainly knew how to live a good life in both good times and sad. We also knew his family meant the world to him.
May you now rest in the peace you so deserved Jim. We so valued your friendship and valued opinions.
Love Rob and Irene
To all of Jim's family, I send sympathy and deepest condolences. Jim and I are both graduates of Crescent Heights High School and were colleagues on staff at Crescent for many years. I remember Jim with great respect for his quiet competence and deep concern for the students whom he helped. I wish great memories for you as you remember and share wonderful family times. I hope that you have all inherited his spirit of adventure!
Blessings to all, Fran Cormack (Grad 1960 CHHS Staff 1965-98)
My condolences to all of Jim's family and friends. I knew Jim through the Calgary Weekend Hikers - there were many hikes. I was always amazed that Jim could go hiking all day and then planned to go dancing later that evening. Jim was a good dancer - I remember being twirled around the dance floor many times. He certainly had a lot of energy.
My condolences to Lisa(and Pete), Julia, James and Brett, and the remaining Nielson family whom I have not met. Reading this obituary gave me a sense of a life well lived. May you take comfort in the presence of friends and family in this difficult time.
I am sorry for your loss. Jim was always kind and jocular with me from the time we first met through my friendship with his and Christine's daughters. I am happy he had a full life and memorable times with his surviving daughters grand children and other family members.
My sincere condolences to Jim’s family, he was a wonderful person. I met Jim through the Norseman ski club, we car pooled many times together. I could never figure Jim out, he never took off his jacket, either going to the ski hills or coming home. I also have many memories dancing with Jim and Jean at the various dance clubs. He was a great person and many will miss him.

My condolences to all of Jim's family for the loss of a great person. I worked with Jim many years in the guidance department at Lord Beaverbrook High School. His office was next to mine so we had many chats just popping into each other's office when we had some free time. He was so interesting and had such good stories about his experiences. And he had an infectious sense of humor. Jim was very welcoming when I joined the team and always made me feel welcome. He was kind and gentle and of course patient. He truly has one of those special people one encounters in life's journey. I feel for how much you will miss him in your lives. Stay close and keep the memories alive.

Jim was my uncle by marriage (to my Dad’s sister Christine).
I was lucky enough to meet him at various times throughout my life; on three trips to Canada and during his various trips to England, including coming to our Wedding in 2002. He was always interested in the people around him and always had something interesting to say.
He took great care and trouble to write regularly and ask about how our sons were getting on in life. I am eternally grateful for the kindness he showed my family and for taking us to “see the sights” during our visit to Calgary in 2005, including a memorable trip to Moraine Lake.
Our thoughts are with Alison, Sarah and Lisa.
We remember Jim with great fondness from this side of the 'pond' in the United Kingdom. He was very much thought of as family by Christine's side of the family. We enjoyed his company when in the UK, which he visited many times. We also enjoyed receiving his many letters and photos (although the handwriting was a bit on the small side). Our thoughts are with Alison, Sarah, Lisa and the rest of family at this difficult time.
The best Dad and Granddad to witness with his attentiveness and care. He was still shaking a leg out in the park while listening to his daughters band several summers ago! I am so glad to have spent time with you and your family. And thank you for the recent birthday song too.
We met Jim Nielsen 20 years ago when visiting our daughter Claire, who was a good friend of Sarah, when she was studying for her PhD at Calgary University. Realising my interest in prehistory, Jim kindly took a day out to take me to the Royal Tyrrell Museum at Drumheller in the Alberta Badlands, and to meet his farming friends Gordon and Marilyn Rasmussen at Gordana Farm in the middle of the Alberta prairies. Jim was one of the kindliest men I have ever met; always curteous, funny and interesting to talk to. I'll never forget his warm smile and engaging nature. Rest in peace, old chum.
