Obituary of William (Bill) Harry Elliot

March 1, 1950 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

October 28, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Elliot, beloved husband of Marlene Elliot (née Bertsch) and adored dad of Amber Elliot, April Elliot, and Ashley Elliot, on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the age of 73 years.

Bill was born in Saskatoon and raised on a nearby farm. He returned to Saskatoon for high school and university, during which time he made life-long friends and met his love, Marlene. Bill and Marlene married in 1973 and celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary this past August, surrounded by their family.

Bill’s career path took him to Winnipeg, St. Albert, and finally to Calgary, which has been home since 1986. He enjoyed working for many years at Marathon and later at Encana, and he especially appreciated the colleagues who became friends. Kind, genuine, hard-working, and friendly, he was always someone others could count on for support, advice, good conversation, and a job well done.

Retired since 2012, Bill found great joy in woodworking and made toys as well as beautiful furniture for his family. His grandchildren had so much fun building in the garage with Grandpa/Baba, and they will treasure their memories and creations. Bill also enjoyed golfing, barbecuing, working on projects around the house and in the yard, visiting with friends, playing with his grandchildren, spending time with his daughters and their families, and going on adventures around the city with Marlene.

Bill’s greatest happiness in life was his family. His ready offers to fix anything and help out were much-appreciated ways he showed his love. He took immense pride in being a husband and dad, and he relished being Grandpa and Baba to eight wonderful grandchildren. Bill’s passing leaves his family heartbroken, but they are grateful for the time they shared together. His legacy is his love of family, as well as his authenticity, strength, and kindness. His family will miss him tremendously and love him forever.

Bill is survived by his wife Marlene, daughters Amber (Ramona Roberts), April, and Ashley (Bryan Walker), grandchildren Summer and Alyssa Roberts, Vincent, Xavier, and Violet Renning, and Hannah, Owen, and Grace Walker, sister Marilyn Basore, and numerous friends and extended family. Bill was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Marjorie (née Piper) Elliot and his brother Gregg Elliot.

Funeral services will be held at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes Crowfoot (82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with reception to follow. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Bill Elliot, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes Crowfoot.
