Obituary of Howard Augustus Parsons

March 19, 1925 - Newport, Wales

October 30, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Howard Augustus Parsons announce his passing on October 30, 2023 at the Colonel Belcher Veteran's home at the age of 98. 

Howard was born in Newport, South Wales March 19, 1925.  He immigrated to Canada in 1950 and married Jean McHugh in 1951.  They were happily married for seventy-two years.  

Howard served in The British Royal Navy from 1943-1950.  He joined The Calgary Transit in 1950 and worked for them for thirty years as a bus driver and Employee Development Supervisor in the training department.  When Howard retired, he became a Marriage Commissioner.  

Howard was a member of The Masonic Lodge for sixty-two years.  He was also a member of The Submariners Association and enjoyed attending the celebrations they held in Vancouver and the UK.  

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Howard.  He was an avid reader and storyteller.  Howard would share his interesting stories from his navy days and travels with the staff and residents of The Belcher.  Howard loved nature and sitting in the sun and would say he needed to get his knees brown.  

Besides his loving wife Jean, he is survived by his eldest son John, and John's family. Howard is also survived by his daughter Roberta, grandchildren Malcolm and Meghan, and his youngest son Hugh.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.  

In living memory of Howard Parsons, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Calgary Crematorium, 3219 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 3A6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
