Condolences
So honored and lucky to have known Michael. His smile and laughter were a delight and will not be forgotten.
I was fortunate to know Michael as a friend for over 25 years. He was a true gentleman. My wife Lyn and I send our condolences to Ginny and the rest of the family.
Mike was my eldest cousin Ginny's husband. I was away in England at boarding school when they they married , the first of our family's fairy tale weddings, and had only heard stories about the dashing young Irish lawyer who had made his presence known in the family. It was not until my family and I arrived in Calgary in 1981 that I really got to know and appreciate his love of family, his quiet curiosity and his amazing humour. The years since have deepened my respect for the essential essence of "Mike". My heart goes out to Ginny, Paul, Carmen, Martin and Nuala. You were very much loved.
I knew Michael professionally in the practise of law. He was the quintessential "scholar and gentleman".
Our deepest condolences for the loss of your wonderful husband, father, and grandfather - may he test in peace. Although recent times may have been difficult, I’m sure you will hold in your heart many, many wonderful memories of the loving and gracious man Uncle Mike was. It is hard when loss happens and I wish you all comfort in the healing and grieving.
Uncle Mike was a champion of sorts for me because he loved me in his quiet and strong way, sticking up for me through a difficult time and always showing an interest in my life without passing judgment, but with his dry wit, making things come into focus and appear as they were, often trivial in the big picture.
I remember him taking pride in his lovely wife, his children, grandchildren, his home and his work. I believe he always wanted the very best for everyone and took an active role in pursuing this. He had a charming and unthreatening way about him everyone found endearing.
He will be missed, but leaves a legacy of love and compassion, duty and commitment, and he will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew him and loved him. There was great joy and mischief in his twinkling blue eyes: he will always be loved and he will not be forgotten. God bless his soul RIP.
