Obituary of Jeanette (Jan) Legge

October 7, 1943 - St. Johns, Newfoundland

November 7, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Jan entered the Kingdom of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Tuesday, November 7, 2023. She was a loving & extraordinary mom to Colin and Kristi, mother-in-law to Gord Van Ee, and grandma to Gord’s daughters, Breanna and Janelle. Jan died at home in peace and surrounded by the love of her children, and her precious cat named Skye. Jan was predeceased by her treasured husband Roy in 2022. Jan and Roy were married for 57 wonderful years! Jan was born on October 7, 1943, in St. John’s, NL. She moved across country to settle in Calgary with Roy and her children in 1986.  Jan, or “Rosie”, as her dad lovingly called her, was predeceased by her father, Archibald Badcock, her mother Millicent (Reid) Badcock and her brother Harrison Badcock.

Jan was devoted to God, her family, her fur-babies, and her dear friends. She lived every day for the audience of the Lord. During her life, she was a spiritual mentor to her kids and grandkids, and she had an insatiable desire to know the Lord more deeply. Jan had the most compassionate, loving, kind, and courageous heart and she was a genuine, resilient, and unwavering encourager; she wanted every person she met to know about the love of Jesus and His promise of eternity in Heaven for those who believe. The wonderful nurses and doctors at the South Health Campus commented that Jan was the sweetest and most positive person they had ever met, despite her sudden cancer diagnosis and difficult illness.  She fought valiantly for time with us.

Jan and Roy attended First Alliance Church for 32 years and built beautiful friendships through the life groups they participated in and led, for many years. These friendships became like family. We have all been truly blessed by these cherished people. Thank you to all of you for your genuine support and love for our mom since our dad’s passing. You know who you are.

It’s no surprise that Jan chose nursing as her profession. She graduated in the 58th class of the General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964, in St. John’s, NL. Jan worked in hospitals for many years and then spent the remainder of her career working in the area of Occupational Health, with Talisman Energy and the Calgary Herald, to name a few.

Jan and Roy loved to travel and as the years went on, they wintered in Yuma, Arizona, where a world of wonderful friendships blossomed for them. Jan went back last winter after Roy’s passing and enjoyed their sweet home in the little oasis called Cocopah. Jan was strong and refused to let the painful loss of her sweetheart change the way she lived her life. She had many wonderful friends there. Thank you to all of you as well! Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Jan lived a full and blessed life alongside her best friend and walked daily with the Lord. She will be dearly missed, and our hearts and lives will never be the same without her. Thanks Mom, for showing us how to live a Godly and joy-filled life. We know you are restored and at peace now in your eternal home with Jesus. We will see you again!

2 Corinthians 5:8 “Absent from the body and present with the Lord.”
