Obituary of Edwin Bruce Gilroy

Edwin Bruce Gilroy, beloved husband of the late Irene Zita Gilroy, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the age of 88 years.

Ed was born in Medicine Hat, AB and grew up on the family farm near Brownvale, AB.  Ed was very proud to have served in the Canadian Armed Forces and was decorated with the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Canada, Canadian Peacekeeping Medal and United Nations Service Medal (Korea) 1953-1956. 

Ed and Irene were married the same year he returned from Korea, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage in July 2021.They settled in Calgary in 1963, where they raised their growing family. Ed owned and operated a painting and contracting company for many years. After he retired they enjoyed many years in High River, AB.

Ed is survived and will be missed by his children, Lorette Braid (Peter), Bradley Gilroy, Lyle Gilroy (Karen Corner), Diana Tworek (Joe) and son-in-law Stephen Sinclaire. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole, David, Mick and Jenna Braid (Kane), Jordan Gilroy (mother Charlene Gilroy), Thomas, Emily (Brent), Kimberly Tworek (Evan) and great-grandson Tyson, and his brother Harold Gilroy, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Ed was predeceased by his wife Irene Gilroy, son Avery Gilroy, daughter Joanne Sinclaire, and his parents Paul & Mary Gilroy.

At Ed’s request there will not be a formal service, a private family gathering will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Edwin’s family here.  If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of one’s choosing.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to AHS, Rockyview Hospital, Unit 59 and AgeCare Midnapore for their support and kindness.
