Gordon Millar

Obituary of Gordon Donald Millar

February 27, 1933 – Peace River, Alberta

November 13, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

Whether it was growing up as one of nine children on the family farm near Peace River; working at the Giant Goldmine in Yellowknife, NWT, where he met and married Elenore, the mother of his three children and the love of his life; or the times spent flying the Canadian skies in his airplanes, Gordon Millar loved nature and all its beauty.

His 90 years on this earth ended peacefully in the early morning hours of November 13, 2023. Daughters Lori (Barry), and Gwen (Cam), son James (Carey); his beloved granddaughters Maya, Sydney, Averay, and Emeray all look back fondly and lovingly at the memories they shared with their father and Poppa; remembering him with a smile.

Dad always had a special place for small dogs and spent many hours cuddling Missy and Cricket in his chair or going for long walks with Charlie through the trails near Buffalo Lake, AB. His later years were made more enjoyable through a special friendship with his kitty Booties who never left his side.

He could cook a mean steak, loved his blue cheese and butter, and back in the day he enjoyed a glass of wine or some rum and homemade eggnog at Christmas with a full house.

Dad worked for many years at Chevron in Edmonton, and Calgary,as a gas trader, a job he dearly loved. Summers were spent visiting family in the Edson, Peers, and the Peace River areas of Alberta. After retirement, he enjoyed many years of lake life and golfing with his second wife Dorothy.

Being the son of James Macbeth Millar, a good Scot who emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s, this Scottish lament ends our goodbye to Dad.

“Death is not loss, nor life winning; but each and to each is friend.”

A private family celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
