Obituary of Lois Fay Mascher (nee Robinson)
June 19, 1926 - Colfax, Saskatchewan
November 13, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Today we celebrate a long life well lived. Lois Fay Mascher was born on June 19, 1926 in Colfax, Saskatchewan. As one of the eldest daughters of nine children growing up in the Depression years, Lois learned the value of hard work and making do. That strong ethic, along with her ability to seize most any opportunity for fun, and delight in life’s small pleasures served her well throughout her 97 years.
As a young woman, Lois attended Business College in Regina, SK and then worked as a Clerk in the Saskatchewan Government purchasing department, a role rarely given to a woman at the time. In 1953, she took a leave from her job and together with her dear friend Doris Wilson, moved to Calgary to broaden her horizons in the big city. The two friends attended First Baptist Church, a place that came to hold special meaning for Lois. It was there Lois met her husband and lifelong partner Fritz Mascher and found a spiritual home.
Lois and Fritz were married in October of 1955 and their story together continued until her passing. They made a special loving home and raised five daughters Fay, Judith, Colleen, Christa, and Sharon. Lois lovingly welcomed her sons-in-law, Chuck, Tom, Jim, Glenn, and Carson. She loved and nurtured ten grandchildren, Carley, Wesley, Anna, Jennifer, Ellie, Virginia, Emma, Julia, Samantha, and Matthaus, and welcomed their partners as the family grew. Lois was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Kaj, Robyn and Nohr.
Lois is survived by her sisters Eileen and Phyllis, and her husband Fritz. She was predeceased by her siblings Gordon, Wesley, J.D., Maxine, Ruth and Jean, and by her son-in-law Tom.
Even in her declining years, Lois’ compassion, genuine interest in others, and fun-loving spirit would sparkle through. She will be dearly missed by her family and the many lives she touched.
In recognition of Lois’s kind and caring spirit please consider performing an act of kindness in her memory.
Thank you to the caregivers at the Salvation Army Agape Hospice and Wentworth Manor for their kindness and tender care.
