Dorothy Sutton

Obituary of Dorothy Bertha Sutton

November 18, 1931 - November 17, 2023,

Dorothy Sutton passed away peacefully the day before her 92nd birthday. Beloved wife of the late Perc (Charlie) Sutton. Forever loved and missed by her children, Joanne, Rick (Katheryn) and Bob (Allison), and her adored grandchildren, Dylan (Dani), Connor (Jo), Chaz (Monica), Sean and Leah.

Born and raised in Grimsby, England, Dorothy and Perc emigrated to Canada three months after they were married in 1952, settling in Edmonton, AB, where they made a very successful life for themselves and their children. They moved to Oakville, ON in 1976 after a work promotion, and enjoyed life there, making new friends and welcoming friends and family from many places around the globe. After Perc’s death in 2002, Dorothy made the move back west, this time to Calgary, where Rick and Bob and families had settled, and made yet another new life for herself. She was thrilled to be able to spend quality time with her grandchildren and watch them grow into happy and successful adults. She made some good friends in Calgary as well, particularly with her aquacise group.

In later life, recognizing that she could no longer manage on her own, she moved into assisted living, where with help, she enjoyed life to the best of her ability. Her body became frailer, and vascular dementia started to claim her mind, but glimpses of the Dorothy we knew and loved still shone through from time to time.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Dorothy’s family here.

Those wishing to honour Dorothy are welcome to do so with a donation to a favourite charity. Dorothy supported the Salvation Army and Mustard Seed for many years but would be happy with any charity that makes a difference in the lives of others.

In living memory of Dorothy Sutton, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
