Obituary of Katherine Ann Wetherell
November 22, 1942 – Calgary, Alberta
November 26, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Katherine “Ann” Wetherell (nee Lohrke), beloved wife of Edward “Ed” Wetherell, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the age of 81 years.
Ann was born in Calgary, AB, on November 22, 1942. She graduated from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1963 and obtained a Diploma in Public Health Nursing from the University of Alberta in 1965, the place where she met her husband. Her initial employment experience was with VON in the Redcliffe glass factory and later with the VON in Edmonton, AB, doing public health care duties. After a short period in Fort St. John, BC, Ann joined the Strathcona County Health Unit providing care in homes and schools in the Strathcona, AB, and Leduc, AB, areas.
Ann and Edward were married in 1966 and had a very happy and fulfilled life together.
Ann was a symbol of caring, compassion, giving, and sharing her skills and resources with others. She accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of significant achievements by her family members, and those whom she mentored and supported.
Apart from travelling the world with her husband, Ann’s most memorable vacations were the organization and execution of annual camping, and water-skiing expeditions of a caravan of four families to the Flaming Gorge in Wyoming, USA. When hiccups or setbacks arose throughout her life, her favourite saying was “It is what it is!” and moved on, regardless of the nature or severity of the issue.
She will be most remembered as a “wonderful person with a beautiful smile".
Besides her loving husband Edward, Ann is survived by her daughter Maureen and son-in-law Jim; son Neil and daughter-in-law Dawna Rose, of Calgary; five grandchildren, Kieran, John, Katelyn Ann Buckley, Caleb Elijah, Makenna Grace, and Astoria Jaiden, all of whom were her pride and joy. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Vera Lohrke of Beiseker, AB.
