Obituary of John Ramescu

May 23, 1958 - November 20, 2023

John, much loved husband of Linda, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, November 20, 2023; just a few days after returning from a wonderful trip to Africa to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and John’s 65th birthday.

John was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, moving to Calgary for a summer in the late 1970’s, he never left, making Calgary his home. After working a few years in the seismic industry, John enrolled at the U of C, completing his BComm in Finance in 1985. He started his successful career as a negotiating land man at Dome Petroleum in 1985 and ending with his retirement from Questfire Energy in 2017, making many lifelong friends along the way.

John always made sure to keep a good work/life balance giving him time to enjoy family, friends, and his many interests. His first priority was always Linda and their fur kids, Leo, Bowie, Jasper, Conan, Bogart, Elvis and now Oscar and Cash. Entertaining friends with good food, wine and music brought him so much joy. He would never pass up an opportunity to DJ, whether at a dinner party or around a campfire. Many will remember with fondness, the teasing he could be counted on to hand out relentlessly. Cars and motorcycles, particularly Harley’s, were a huge part of his life. He spent so many hours planning the customization of his many bikes, each one unique and special. He always looked forward to his bike trips with the ‘boys’ whether it was camping with his good friend Kip enjoying a can of Chef Boyardee over a campfire in the early days or living it up at the Deadwood Lodge/Sturgis in recent years. He was so excited about the trip they had planned for next summer.

Over the past few years John and Linda enjoyed very special vacations shared with friends, including Italy, Africa, Israel, and Jordan. They were also able to enjoy their home in Scottsdale since their retirement, making many friends in their community there.

John was predeceased by his parents, uncle, and Linda’s parents. Along with wife Linda, he will be greatly missed by his brothers, George Ramescu, and Steve Ramescu (Katherine); sisters-in-law, Judy Walton, and Barb Kimmett (Fraser); niece Chelsea Walton (Matt); nephews, Ben Walton, Darcy Kimmett, and Jeremy Kimmett; grandniece Juniper; and grandnephew Jasper; as well as a number of extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in John’s memory.
