Obituary of Russel James Walker

Russel Walker, beloved husband of Anne Walker (nee Richards), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the age of 85 years.

Born and raised in the little village of Exshaw Alberta, on December 31, 1937, Russ grew up in the mountains.  He continued to love the Rockies throughout his life — skiing, hiking, and camping with his friends and family until university and a banking career brought him to Edmonton and eventually Calgary. 

He loved sports— playing hockey to the junior level, curling while at U of A, skiing with his wife and kids, playing golf with friends from work and old buddies from school and, of course, keeping up-to-date with the Flames and Stampeders.

Russ achieved a BA in economics and eventually put it to use as a bank loan officer, manager, and loan supervisor for the Bank of Nova Scotia. Beginning his career in Edmonton, he eventually moved to Calgary, then spent 2 years in Yellowknife and moved once again to Calgary.

Russ married Anne Richards and became father to Kimberly, Richard, and Robert and eventually grandfather to Andrew, Jake, Hailey, Owen, and Michael. Together, the family enjoyed weekends skiing, hiking, and visiting extended family. Summer vacation included road trips to mountain resorts or further down the road to places like California where his sister and family lived.

Russ is predeceased by his father Maurice, mother Edna, sister Jean and brother-in-law Paul and several long-time fraternity brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
