Obituary of Marilyn Frances Frederiksen

February 6, 1938 - Calgary, Alberta

November 22, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Marilyn Frederiksen, beloved wife of Andy Frederiksen, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the age of 85 years.

Marilyn grew up on a dairy farm east of Calgary, in the Chestermere Lake area. Where she attended grade school and then went on to graduate from Western Canada High School in Calgary. After high school, Marilyn attended the University of Calgary earning her bachelor’s degree in teaching.

Marilyn married her first husband Jack Ambridge in 1959, whom she started a family with. She dedicated her life to her husband and two daughters, Shelley, and Jennifer. After that marriage ended, she met her life-long partner, Andy. Marilyn married Andy in 1991 after ten years of loving proposals. Marilyn studied fashion design for a few years before turning her attention to art. She was an Esteemed artist in the local art community. Marilyn was a member of the Okotoks Art Gallery, THE GROUP in Calgary, Blue Sky Artists in Okotoks, The Leighton Art Centre, and Calgary Creative Art Guild. Marilyn studied with local artists such as Carol Little and Sharon Lynn Williams, also with well-known artists such as Andrew Kiss, Murray Phillips, Roger D. Arndt, Doug Levitt and John Einerssen. She also volunteered with the Mustard Seed, where she helped serve food and visited with guests. She also took on the role of mentor to young ladies in need, with one girl in particular, Barb, whom she mentored until Barb passed away of Covid in 2020. Marilyn has contributed much value to her community.

Marilyn accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed country music, and going to concerts and musical festivals. She had a passion for the outdoors as she enjoyed gardening and spending time in the park, and she loved driving the back roads with Andy, taking photographs that would be used for inspiration for her paintings. Marilyn's favourite vacations were to Hawaii and road trips throughout Alberta and British Columbia with Andy.

She will be most remembered for her kindness, empathy, and compassion for the suffering of others. Let us not forget her made from scratch chocolate cake, and times of just being silly. Marilyn was a loving mother, wife, daughter, and friend. She was very involved with her friends and family from teaching her grandchildren some of her artistic skills through painting and music, hosting family gatherings, and stepping up for her friends when they faced hardship. Her love will not be forgotten. Marilyn was a proud Christian woman, and her favourite Psalm was Psalm 139.”

Besides her loving husband, Andy, Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Shelley and son-in-law Tony, and Jennifer. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jesse, Kristle, Evan, and Nicole; and her great-grandchildren, Ellis, Damien, LJ, Boss and Luxley-Lynn. Also, her biological brother Bill Mosley, sister-in-law, Joyce Hodgson, and Andy’s sister, Dorrit. She was predeceased by her parents John Walter Hodgson and Frances Hodgson, and her son Jeffery who passed away shortly after childbirth, her brother Everett, and her mother-in-law Karin Frederiksen.
