Obituary of Katherine Joan

November 18, 1954 - Calgary, Alberta

November 26, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

We write this obituary on behalf of our sister Katherine ‘Kathy’ Joan who passed away on November 26, 2023. Throughout her 69 years, Kathy lived in the family home in southwest Calgary. She was a strong and stubborn person who spent much of her time researching the American Civil War. Her particular hobby was locating the graves of veterans who lived in western Canada. When she found one, she arranged for the US government to place a plaque on the headstone. In later years, Kathy struggled with mobility and health issues, but she enjoyed family visits, replays of popular crime shows and researching her many curiosities.

Kathy was predeceased by parents, Jim and Evelyn. She is survived by three bratty brothers, Jim (Jeannine), Howard (Dana) and Glenn, and a bratty sister, Nancy. Kathy is also survived by five nieces, Lindsay, Valerie, Adrianne, Alexis and Laura, and a nephew, Isaiah.

We thank the staff at Rockyview Hospital and the “sock ladies” who assisted with her daily care, as well as the staff at Westbrook Shopping Centre, where Kathy charged down the mall with a shopping cart as though part of an infantry assault. Special thanks also go to Cheryl, who kept an eye on Kathy’s well-being. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Kathy’s family here.

In living memory of Kathy, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
