Obituary of Georgina (nee Close) Galbraith

October 4, 1934 - Belfast, Ireland

December 2, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Georgina Galbraith beloved wife of Frank Ronald Galbraith of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Georgina was born on October 4, 1934, in Belfast Northern Ireland. She spent half of her life in Belfast where she met the love of her life, Frank. They immigrated to Canada in 1976 with their two daughters. After a brief stay in Ottawa, they relocated to Calgary to be closer to family. Georgina’s cousin Sheila was there and like a sister to her. She enjoyed much time with her in Calgary.  She was very close to her mother and brought her to Canada to live.

Georgina worked most of her life in retail where she made some lasting friendships. Later in life she did some office work before retiring to help care for her grandchildren and spend time travelling with Frank. She was a devoted wife and grandmother, always giving of herself. She liked to make sure things were just right. She was the decorator of the family, a great painter and nobody could wrap a Christmas present perfectly like her.

Frank passed away in 2017 and they are now together again. Her dementia did not take her sense of humor or kind spirit. She might have forgotten a lot, but she always remembered her childhood friend Iris, and her mother, both who were dear to her heart.

Georgina is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Colin) and Karen (Ron), and her five grandchildren Darren, Shawn, Rachel, Jacqueline, and Nolan.

She was also predeceased by her mother Edith, and her brother Hugh of England.

The family wishes to thank all the Bow Crest Care Centre nursing staff for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Bow Crest was her home for the past six years and we are happy to say she found comfort there.

A Celebration of Georgina’s Life will be held at the Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Georgina’s family here.
