Condolences
John and I were roommates and fellow Beaverbrook Scholars. We met at reunions and exchanged correspondence over the years. John always expressed firm opinions about a range of topics from climate change to politics. ( By the way he led the Province of New Brunswick in Junior Matriculation, and made sure to remind me I was second !

Mr. Alston was a long time supporter of KSPS, the PBS affiliate out of Spokane, WA. It was my pleasure to carry on a mail and phone conversation for several years and to finally get to meet him when in Calgary. He was such a lovely man and spoke so proudly and lovingly of his family.
May his memory always be for a blessing.

I met John at the University of New Brunswick in the Geology Department. We were classmates. After graduating we both headed to Calgary and worked together at Shell Oil for many years. When we arrived in Calgary we were roommates for several years until we hooked up with our future wives. We got kicked out of one apartment when the landlord came by and found John's motorcycle in pieces on the floor as he took it a part to make it run better.
I remember John as a fun loving easy going guy. He worked hard and played hard. He was adventuresome, touring around the province on his motorcycle. Sometimes I was on the back end joining him on his trips.
My condolences to John's extended family. He was a good man.
