Obituary of Martin Everadus Vredegoor

Martin Vredegoor beloved husband of Norma Vredegoor (nee Stewart) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the age of 79 years.

 

Martin was born on September 12, 1944, in Hummelo en Keppel, Netherlands. At the age of 12, he immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings. The family lived near Iron Springs for a few years, and later moved to the Hand Hills area. Martin worked for a few different farmers and in the oilfield. He got the travel bug and spent several winters in Australia and made several trips to Europe.

 

Martin met Norma in 1974 at his brother Tony and Marilyn's wedding. It took them a few years to decide they were meant for each other. Martin and Norma were married in 1989 and have lived in Calgary ever since. They continued to travel and for the past fifteen years, spent several months during the winter in Mazatlan, Mexico.

 

Martin is survived by his wife Norma, siblings, Maria Gammie, Agnes (Dan) Martin, and Tony (Marilyn) Vredegoor; brothers-in-law, Frank (Lorraine) Amendt and Ray Gamracy; and sister-in-law Judy (John) Devlin. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, Don, Glenn, Darcy, Lorna, Connie, Ed, Jody, Stan, Crystal, Cody, Jenny, Billy, Tommy, and Bill; as well as several great-nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by sisters, Ann Amendt and Dianne Gamracy; brother Barney Vredegoor, and brother-in-law Ron Bigford.

 

A Celebration of Martin’s Life will be held at Hand Hills Lake Club (Craigmyle, AB) on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
