Obituary of Dorothy Fay Phillips

February 2, 1934 – Regina, Saskatchewan

December 4, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dorothy Fay Phillips (Cordick) announce her peaceful passing on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter Cheryl, daughters-in-law Ivy and Wendy; grandchildren Sean (Alanna), Jennie (Ben), Duncan, Scott (Jaclyn), and Robyn; and great-grandchildren, Skyler, Noah, and Brady; her sisters Mary, Shirley and Florence; and her brother Walter.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert, sons Bill and Brian; sisters Edna, Muriel, and Molly; brothers Victor, Bill, Lorne, Verlin, and David; and her parents, Oliver and Molly.

Dorothy was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1934 to Molly and Oliver. She grew up in a house full of music and activity with 13 children. She worked in Calgary at the Wales hotel as an elevator operator, where she met her husband, Robert. Dorothy also worked as a cake decorator and got very creative over the years. We never had plain birthday cakes, that's for sure.

Dorothy and Robert had a cabin at Alberta Beach where they loved spending their summers. Dorothy was a woman of many passions, including curling, golfing, fishing, baking, volunteering, and looking after many kids, to whom she became like family to - Grandma Dot or to some, Dotty Potty. She also loved biking, skating, and tobogganing with the kids, as well as singing, yodeling, and dancing, and of course, her grandchildren.

A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to all the staff at Brentwood Intercare, and Dr. Smyth for their care and compassion, as well as Yvonne Trigg and Kathy Lines.  Also, a special mention to Marie Bredo, friends forever.

In living memory of Dorothy Phillips, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
