Obituary of Mary Jane Wetherell

Mary Jane (Mj) Wetherell of Foothills County passed away surrounded by her children and husband on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the age of 62 years. Born in Calgary, AB the youngest of five children, Mj lived all of her life in Southern Alberta.

Beloved spouse of Ken Wetherell, Mj was an artist and an athlete, but her true passion was being a loving mother to her eight children, Myles, Thomasine, Chase, Jade, Lotte, Aura, Silken and Jiggs. She was also a proud grandmother to Jake, Ben and Leif.

Mj was an incredible downhill skier, having become a level 5 instructor at the age of 15 years. She also loved to run, swim, and spend long summer vacations in southern British Columbia and on Vancouver Island. An avid animal lover, she surrounded herself with heartbeats, including her beloved pot-bellied pig, Rosey, her three mini-dachshunds and her Labrador retriever.

Mj was predeceased by her parents, John (Jiggs) Herbert Cook and Elaine Thomasine Cook.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pamela Chu, and the staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the South Health Campus for their care and support.

We will remember Mj for her beauty and modesty, for being a fiercely dedicated and caring mother to all of her children and pets, and as a best friend who set an example to motivate all of us to strive to be better in every way.

A service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church, Elbow Park, (3602 8th Street SW, Calgary, Alberta T2T 3A7). Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Mary Jane’s family here.
