Obituary of Muriel Besse D'Eath

December 29, 1928 - December 11, 2023

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Muriel Besse D’Eath passed away peacefully on Monday December 11, 2023, at the age of 94 years.

Muriel was born in Calgary and attended Western Canada High School before joining the workforce at The Calgary Herald.

Muriel had a love for sports and the outdoors, taking up skiing as a teenager and later, curling and golfing with the love of her life, Graham.  She passed on her enthusiasm for sports to her children, teaching all of them to ski.  She liked to hike and speed skate and was a regular golfer and member at the Inglewood Golf and Curling Club, and she curled in the Esso League with husband Graham. She made many life-long friends through work and sports.

Muriel married Graham on October 14, 1952. The happy couple started their family shortly, thereafter, raising four children; Gord, Val, John and Jane.  Family gatherings and vacations to Lake Windermere were a special time for her and she enjoyed talking with family and friends on the phone.  She adored her children and loved being a Grandma and Great-Grandma. She was a very caring and empathetic person who touched many lives.

Muriel is forever the loving mother of Gordon (Janice) D’Eath, Valerie (Wayne) Pennycook, John (Kelly) D’Eath, and Jane (Sven) Rylandsholm.  Grandma will be dearly missed by eight Grandchildren, Jillian (Clark) Bowden, Mike (Justine) D’Eath, Stacey DeBoer, Daniel Pennycook, Jacob and Katherine D’Eath, Erik and Ethan Rylandsholm; and six Great-Grandchildren, Thomas and Nicholas Bowden, Theodore and Ruby DeBoer, James and Emily D’Eath. She was predeceased by her husband Graham, son Gordon, brothers Dean and Arnold Fry, and mother and father Besse and John Fry.
