“Memories of a Life that's been Loved”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie (Marge) McIlveen, beloved longtime companion of Jacqueline (Jackie) Hammond, of Calgary, AB. Marge passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 90 years.

Marge was born October 3, 1933, in Calgary, AB, to parents Alberta and John W. McIlveen. She was an accomplished woman who graduated from nursing at St. Michael’s Hospital, working her way up to eventually becoming the manager of an inpatient unit at the Holy Cross Hospital. Marge took an early retirement so she could travel the world with Jackie and enjoy her many hobbies. Marge was a compassionate human who supported multiple causes that included domestic and wild animals and would take in any stray cat that she found. She volunteered at the 1988 Olympics here in Calgary, wearing many different hats. Her family genealogy was very important to Marge; she spent countless hours tracing her family history, categorizing the information, and meeting many family members along the way. Marge’s passion for politics encouraged many lively discussions.

Marge will be dearly missed by her friend of 64 years, Jackie, as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends. She is also survived by her brother John McIlveen.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in honor of Marge to a charity of your choosing.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Marge’s family here.
