Obituary of Giovanni Diluzio
July 7, 1935 – Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy
December 20, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Giovanni Diluzio, beloved husband of Anna Diluzio of sixty-four years, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
“Nonno” was born on July 7, 1935, in Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. Giovanni strived for a better life for his family. He travelled to Canada and worked on the railroad in 1957, returning to Chieti in 1958 to marry the love of his life Anna, on December 27, 1958. He returned to Canada shortly after to work, and Anna rejoined Giovanni six months later. It was in Calgary they started their beautiful life together. Giovanni worked as a journeyman bricklayer/carpenter as well as a cook at the General Hospital. He and Anna were inseparable cooking, gardening, walking, travelling, and enjoying the “Dolce Vita” together. Giovanni loved spending time with his grandchildren and was blessed to have a great-granddaughter, as well. He was a diehard Flames fan, watching every game on his favourite couch and was an avid swimmer. Although Giovanni didn’t have any of his own family immigrate and stay in Canada, he considered and treated his numerous friends from the “Old country,” swimming pool and neighbours as his family.
Besides his loving wife Anna, Giovanni is survived by his children, Lou (Kelly) and David (Wendi), and his greatest treasures, his grandchildren, Michael, Jenny, Shaun (Jessica), Isabella, Matteo, and great-granddaughter Rory. In addition, he is survived by his sister Rita, sisters-in-law, Donatella Diluzio and Carmen Pesolli, Rita Pesolli and Freda Pesolli; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Gabriella Carroll, grandson Anthony Diluzio, father Luigi, mother Anna, sisters, Palma, Antonietta and Maria; brother Nicola, father and mother-in-law, Francesco and Asunta Pesolli; and brothers-in-law, Antiono Pesolli, Augustino Pesolli, and Alnaldo Francavilla.
