Obituary of Sheila Foster

Sheila Foster passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 77 years after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by Ted, her husband for 56 years, her two sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, many nephews and nieces, and innumerable close friends.

Her bubbly personality attracted many friends, and her presence would light up a room. She enriched many lives. Her many interests included travel, music, scuba diving, and cross-country skiing. After a rewarding career as Executive Assistant to several corporate presidents, she obtained a diploma in Public Communications at Mount Royal University in 1992, following which she started her own communications business. She also volunteered on the Board of the Alberta Council of Disability Services and the Mount Royal University advisory committee for the Public Communication Program.

Her positive attitude and strong character saw her through her first encounter with cancer 17 years ago. She subsequently continued to travel extensively, enjoying the culture, historic monuments and crafts of other countries. Travels through China resulted in her becoming President of the Canada-China Friendship Association, encouraging personal friendships and cultural ties. She also volunteered as Director of various Calgary senior associations. Sheila was cremated at a private ceremony on December 29, 2023.
