Obituary of Ljubica Mirosavljevic

Ljubica Mirosavljevic of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the age of 73 years from complications during recovery of heart surgery in the Foothills Hospital.

Ljubica was born in Slavonski Brod, Croatia on October 23, 1950, and then emigrated from Croatia to Canada in 1971 with then husband Andrija (Andy) Mirosavljevic, but later divorced.

Ljubica graduated from the Tehnička škola (university) in Slavonski Brod as a draftsperson.

Prior to retirement in 2015, Ljubica worked as a Dietary Aide in the Calgary General Hospital and then later the Peter Lougheed Hospital.  She accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of four adult grandchildren.

She had beautiful friends throughout her life. In her Chaparral Ravine condominium, the “babushkas” went on daily walks together and to weekly senior’s IHOP or Casino breakfast outings.  She adored her relationships with her work cohorts throughout the years, keeping in touch and even going on a USA shopping excursion.  Her long-standing Croatian and European friends met for coffee and had many family gatherings throughout the years.

Ljubica’s life highlight was being the matriarch of a vacation party of nine, when taking her children with their spouses, and grandchildren to her home soil of Croatia in June 2023.  This was most memorable as she led everyone through the town and streets of Slavonski Brod, showing off her childhood home, childhood school and university.  She made sure to compel everyone to walk, as she had to, making all those ‘old tough stories’ of growing up to sink in.  She even showed the River Sava, that she swam across as a teenager bordering Slavonski Brod, which was quite an impressive feat beholding it in person.

Ljubica’s favourite saying was “it’s okay”.  She always took the calm approach to everything.  While the rest of us sped up with hectic stressful minute to minute lives, Ljubica always was taking it easy ‘chewing & enjoying her food’ instead of swallowing without tasting.

Ljubica is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Nicole Mirosavljevic, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brent Generoux, sister Maja, four adult grandchildren, Alexa, Madalyn, Brodie, and Brooklyn, two nephews, Hrvoje and Alen; and niece Vivian all residing in Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Zdravka (Dimo), niece Mia (Domagoj) and nephew Bojan (Martina) of Croatia.

Ljubica was predeceased by her father Josip Eric, mother Olgica Jordanov-Eric, and two brothers, Svetislav “Miso” and Dimo Eric all of Slavonski Brod, Croatia.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ljubica’s family here.
