Obituary of Gloria Joan Rasmussen

Gloria Rasmussen, beloved wife of the late Gunner Brogard Rasmussen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

Gloria worked with the CBE for 40 years as a teacher and assistant principal. She loved music, playing the piano, baking and was an avid painter.

Gloria was a much-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She held a special place in her families’ hearts and will be extremely missed. She was a hard working, compassionate and quick-witted person who enjoyed helping others. She channeled this energy into her 40-year teaching career as well as into the lives of her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. In retirement Gloria could often be found working in the garden, painting, volunteering as a proctor, or running her grandchildren around to their various activities.

Maya Angelou said that people will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Gloria made those dear to her feel loved and cared for always and that will never be forgotten.

Gloria is survived by her daughter Janine Vatcher, her son Craig Rasmussen, four grandchildren, Chris Vatcher, Fraser Rasmussen, Meagan McKeage, and Kory Snell; and eight great-grandchildren, Ella and Avery Rasmussen, Brooklyn Snell, Chase, Ryan and Elliot Vatcher Wade and Jade and Sierra McKeage. She was predeceased by her husband Gunner Brogard Rasmussen.

A Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Gloria’s family here.
