Obituary of Diana Lorraine Gray

Diana Gray (nee Schafer), beloved wife of James MacDonald Gray, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the age of 95 years.

Diana was born in Calgary, AB, on June 5, 1928.

Diana married James in 1948.  Diana and James had a long, happy marriage until James passed away in 2003.

Diana accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of working at the Petroleum Club as a receptionist for 20 years.  She also enjoyed volunteering at the Fanning Centre, providing companionship for patients.  Diana’s hobby was gardening, taking care of a large flower bed and yard at the home she and James shared.

In her younger years, Diana enjoyed spending time with friends, socializing and playing cards.  Another passion was travelling. She and James took memorable trips to both Hawaii and Barbados and regularly travelled to Reno, Nevada.  Diana enjoyed travelling with her beloved sister Lucille and Lucille’s husband Benny.

She will be most remembered for her strong will, never give up attitude and doing things her way.

Diana is survived by her son, James II, two grandchildren, James Gray III and Colleen Gray, and three great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Danica and James IV, all of Calgary, AB.  Diana is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Diana was predeceased by her beloved husband James, sister Lucille, daughter-in-law Joyce Gray (nee Bishop) and parents Kathleen and Alexander Schafer.

A Graveside Service will be held at Queens Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 3A6) on January 4, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Diana’s family here.
