Obituary of Erna Schreiber

Erna Schreiber (nee Unrath) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Erna was born in Ukraine on September 6, 1931, and moved to Calgary, AB in 1958. She volunteered with the Calgary Zoo for many years and enjoyed interacting with the guests. Erna loved dancing and was known to start dancing whenever music was being played. Erna loved travelling, taking a number of vacations driving around Canada in the Volkswagen Bug with the kids, as well as a number of trips to Europe, Hawaii and Vegas.

Erna is survived by her son Anthony (Karla); four grandchildren, Thomas, Harlan, Haley, and Virginia; and her son-in-law Jim Read. Erna was predeceased by her daughter Monica, and ex-husband Reinhold, as well as her parents and brother. 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Erna’s family here.

In living memory of Erna Schreiber, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
