Obituary of Vivian Louise Smith

October 12, 1924 - December 25, 2023

 

Vivian Louise Smith beloved wife of the late Frank Smith of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the age of 99 years.

 

Vivian was born in Rama, SK, on October 12, 1924. Her father decided to move the family to Peace River County in 1929.

 

Starting her career, she completed a six-month course at a business college and proceeded to work at the US Forces in the department of Supply and Service in the 1940s. After the army, she worked for Horne and Pitfield Grocery Wholesale.

 

Vivian married Frank Smith, an RCMP Constable on September 28, 1946, and were married for over 70 years. She was a member of the CWL and the IODE in Beaverlodge.

 

Vivian enjoyed cooking, baking, artwork, her grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She loved her bridge club and her scrabble club.

 

Her most memorable vacation was when she and Frank traveled to Europe for 16 days.

 

Vivian is predeceased by her loving husband Frank, sisters Eileen Wald, Jeanne Haguewood, Joyce Flynn, and her brother Jack Murray. She is also predeceased by her daughter-in-law Josie Smith.

 

She is survived by her sons Murray Smith, Ron Smith, Brian (Sean) Smith, and her daughter Debbie (David) Chamberland as well as eight grandchildren, Marc, Jill, Peter, Gavin, Ryan, Loni, Daniel, and Elise, and sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lukes Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Dr NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall at the church. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Mausoleum. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Vivian’s family here.
