Obituary of Virginio Tonellato

September 15, 1931 – Postioma, Italy

December 27, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Virginio “Jack” Tonellato, beloved husband of Anna Maria Tonellato (nee Rossi), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the age of 92 years.

Jack was born in Postioma, Italy, on September 15, 1931. He was an excellent carpenter with 40 years in the trade. In his free time, he was a true nature lover who enjoyed bird hunting with his dog, fishing, and gardening. He was also an avid bowler. He loved watching hockey (Calgary Flames) and wine making in his free time.

Jack accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his children and grandchildren.

Jack enjoyed cycling and watching Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. Jack’s favourite vacation was their annual trip to Osoyoos, BC.

He will be most remembered for his kind and gentle soul.

Besides his loving wife, Jack is survived by his two daughters, Christina (Bob) and Debbie (Luca); his two sons, Danny (Tanya) and Mark (Antonella); his eight grandchildren, Rayna (Joel), Lucas (Zabdi), Jacob, Robert, Cali, Lido, Jimi, and Delano.

Jack is also survived by his brother Alessandro (Elide) and sister Bertilla, all residing in Calgary, Alberta; and his sisters Maria and Luciana residing in Postioma, Italy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Cesira and Vito, and his sisters Carla and Gabriella; all from Postioma, Italy.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 404 Northmount Place N.W., (corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Virginio's family here.
