Obituary of Heinz Georg Wenzek

WENZEK, Heinz

November 17, 1931 – December 27, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Heinz Georg Wenzek of Calgary, AB after 92 passes around the Sun.

Born in Berlin in 1931, he survived the Second World War as a child, and came of age helping his family survive in the ruins and devastation of post war Berlin. He was a survivor! Heinz immigrated to Canada in 1957 and established his home in Calgary in 1960. There he raised a family with his former wife Elke, built a successful company, established many friendships, and was highly respected in the community. He loved spending time in his garden and at the cabin he constructed himself with hand tools. He was the greatest father, a man you could always count on and the most genuine human being.

Heinz is survived by four of his five children, Peter, Robert, Richard, and Karen; his grandchildren, Daniel, Kayla, Lydia, and Panos; his former wife Elke, their significant others and the many other extended family members and friends who loved him.

A Celebration of Heinz’s Life will be planned for the late spring/early summer. Those who wish to attend, please email wenzekfamily@shaw.ca. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Heinz’s family here.

In living memory of Heinz Wenzek, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
