Obituary of Linda Groen

Linda Groen (nee Lazdins), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the age of 74 years.

Today we lost our sister (Marg Gauld, Olly (Bob) Bothwell, and John (Maddy) Lazdins), mother (Leigh-Anne (Jay) Palter and Fiona (Jamie) Stein, grandmother (Madelynne (Tristan), Spencer, Tyler, Mackenzie (Dante), Ben and Ella), great-grandmother (LucINDA Rose) and friend. Linda was predeceased in death by her parents, and her brothers, George, Vern and Andrew.

Despite a three-year old diagnosis of Multiple-Systems-Atrophy; an aggressive form of Parkinson’s disease, nothing could have fully prepared us for this day. We’re grateful that a stroke took her quickly and saved her from the worst indignities of her disease. Her final days were spent in the company of three of her grandchildren and her great-grand daughter Lucy – who was a bright shining light for all of us throughout an otherwise dark, difficult and all too fast journey.

Linda will be remembered for her acerbic wit and love of her family.

In accordance with her wishes, Linda will be cremated, and there will be a celebration of her life when she is laid to rest with her parents John and Olive Lazdins, in Ontario, this coming spring.
