Obituary of Marquez Palicdan Bayasen

April 20, 1963 – Mt. Province, Philippines

January 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Marquez Bayasen, beloved husband of Thelma Bayasen of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 60.

Marquez was born in Mt. Province, Philippines on April 20, 1963, and immigrated to Canada in 1987. Marquez graduated from Everest College as a Cardiology Technician. He has a passion for medical science, veganism, and most importantly, tennis. He accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the family he and Thelma built.

Marquez’s most memorable vacation was when he went cross-country all around the United States with his family to visit friends and relatives. He also enjoyed his nephew’s Caribbean wedding.

Marquez’s favourite poem was Psalm 23.

Besides his loving wife Thelma, Marquez is survived by his three daughters, Hannah of Toronto, ON, and Ruxleigh and Dazzlin of Calgary, AB; and his two grandchildren, Orwill and Roisin of Toronto, ON. Marquez is also survived by his sister and two brothers, Nancy of Montreal, QC, Art of Sacramento, California, and Orland of the Philippines; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He will be most remembered for his strength, gentle spirit, but most of all, his hospitality and generosity. He has touched a lot of lives and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. 

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Bayasen’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Marquez’s family here.
