Obituary of Maureen Rachel LOVE

January 6, 1925 – Craven, Saskatchewan May 18, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Maureen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the age of 93 years. Maureen Rachel Love was born to Rachel and George Love in Craven, Saskatchewan; the third youngest in a family that eventually numbered 12 children. They moved to Ridgedale briefly when Maureen was a baby, then to the homestead near Porcupine Plain, Sk, where Maureen grew up. She attended Golden Glow school, and then moved for to Lynn Lake, Manitoba where she was employed by Sherridon-Gordon. From there she moved to Campbell River, Vancouver Island to join her younger siblings Essie and Bill and their families. Mellodie was born in Campbell River. Later she moved back to the farm in Saskatchewan where she cared for her ageing parents until they passed. She continued to care for the elderly, taking a job in D’Arcy, Sk with the Wallis family, and then in Calgary with Mrs. Prudden. Calgary became her home where she lived out her life. After the passing of Mrs. Prudden, she managed the mailroom for Revelstoke Lumber Co. until her retirement. Maureen would not want us to focus on her earthly accomplishments, as her true vocation and calling was the life she lived for God, whom she came to know personally early in life. She “laid up her treasures in Heaven”, and in so doing, left a huge impact on all who were privileged to know her. She loved others with her words and her actions, especially children and youth. She loved to see people laugh and had a quiet, quick wit. She worked tirelessly behind the scene in her church, and taught Sunday school for years. “Grandma Love” is survived by her daughter Mellodie Love; grandson Sterling Love; and son-in-law Chris Kennedy; as well has numerous nieces and nephews and family that extends far and wide. She was the last surviving of her generation, predeceased by her mother Rachel Love; father George Love; and siblings Dorothy, Simeon aka Sim (Helen), Winona aka Winnie (Teddy), Leola Barks aka Ollie (Arnie), Peter aka Pete (Bertha), Yvonne aka Bonnie Wake (Austin), Alice Brown (Allan), George aka Geordie, Reginald aka Reggie, Esther Decosse aka Essie (Teddy), and William aka Bill (Betty).
