Katie Hurley

Obituary of Katie Alana Hurley

August 25, 1981 - Thunder Bay, Ontario

December 29, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Katie Hurley on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the age of 42 years.

Katie was born on August 25, 1981, to Brian Paulsen and Shelby Hurley (née Kirkpatrick). She grew up in Terrace Bay, ON, with her four younger siblings. She loved being a big sister, and she was always looking out for them. They all shared many memories and laughs with her, and they each held a special place in her heart.

Katie was naturally stunning; no one could ever deny that. She could walk into any room and light it up with her gorgeous smile alone. She also had a contagious laugh that her family and friends could recognize from a mile away.

She had a natural gift for styling hair and makeup. She also had a talent for cooking and worked in various restaurants over the span of her life. In the last couple of years, she took an interest in painting and found a lot of joy in it.

Katie made her way west to Alberta, where she devoted her entire heart and soul to her four children, Lily, Phoenix, Willow, and Harlow. They made countless memories together, but some of their favourites were spending time baking together as well as going swimming at the pool. It would be an understatement to say that her kids were her entire world, and she loved them to her core; she was so proud of each of them and talked so highly about all their accomplishments.

Katie will be greatly missed by her four children, Lily, Phoenix, Willow, and Harlow; her siblings, Britt Hurley (Jenny), Andrew Hurley (Betsy), Jesse Paulsen (Brandon), and Taylor Paulsen; her stepmother Tracy Paulsen; her stepfather Frank Hurley (Carole); her niece and nephew, Hayes and Goldie Hurley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Katie is reunited with her parents, Shelby Hurley and Brian Paulsen; and her dear great-aunt, Nellie Stewart.

A Celebration of Katie’s Life will be held at a later date.
