Obituary of Christian Harold Chiniquay

August 30, 1995 - December 31, 2023

"Tah-Knô-Na-thâ”

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our son, grandson, nephew, cousin, brother, father, uncle, and friend, Christian Harold Samuel Chiniquay at the age of 28 years old on December 30, 2023, in Morley, AB.

Christian was born at the Canmore Regional Hospital on August 30, 1995. He attended and received his education at the Morley Community School, and studied trades, technology, and construction with the Youth Labour Market Career Camp at Goodstoney Center in 2020.

Christian lived his life to the fullest. He grew up honoring and respecting the values of our traditional culture. He took part at powwows dancing as a grass dancer, and he took pride and was proud in the colours of his regalia. As a child he played for the Stoney Minor Hockey and Canmore Minor Ice Cats as a defenceman.

He always had a gift at a very young age with being around horses and took part in rodeos. He always helped his uncle and grandpa with tending to, training and breaking horses.

Christian mostly loved spending quality time with his parents, Rodrick (Vanessa) and Elisa, children, brothers, friends, and family. His little brother Lane was his hero.  He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor, consistent joking, and humble caring heart with extended love he gave his entire family and circle of friends. He made sure he helped and supported those in need and expected nothing in return.

His kind, loving smile and laughter will truly be missed.

Christian is survived by his mother Elisa, brothers, Lane and Jayden; sister Monica (Tyler), grandpas, Paul and Myron (Stacy) Rollinmud; grandmas, Marjorie Powderface and Winnie Beaver; uncle Philip (Samantha); aunt Brigette (Ken); cousins, Nikki (Chrissie), Darius (Dini), O’Rielly, Samuel, Johnny, Ty, Jason, Chayce, Caleb, Noah, Shayla, and Sharon; his adopted family, parents, Bradley and Pearl House, sister Tricella, brother Colten House, and uncle BR (Angela) Amos; and his other adopted mom Carlin Onespot.

He is also survived by his father Rodrick Hunter (Vanessa), brothers, Cohen Rattlesnake, Mateo Stewart, and Lawless Hunter; aunts, Lydia Hunter and Amosina Beaver (Kirby); uncles, Lyndon Hunter (Mel), and Samuel Hunter; grandma Bessie Colleen Hunter, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, friends, and extend relatives both on the maternal and paternal sides from the Firingstoney, Cutknife, and Hunter families.

We apologize if we have missed anyone.

Christian was predeceased by his common-law wife Michelle Ear (2021), grandma Sharon Chiniquay, grandma Glenna Two Young Man, grandfather Harry Firingstoney, great-grandma Doris Rollinmud, brothers, Bradcus House and William Bearspaw; uncle Kelly Hunter, cousin Garret Hunter, aunty Amanda Firingstoney, along with numerous extended relatives on both sides.
