It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Rudy Berger at the age of 96.

 

Rudy will be sadly missed by his loving wife Jeanette; children: Bill, Brian (Kim), Cindy, Robert (Rieko), Liz (Paul); grandchildren: Tyler, Christopher, David, Carter, Maile, Kavika, Dominic (Christine), Maurice, great-grandson: Xavier; nephews: Richard and Ronnie, cousins, and friends. Rudy was predeceased by his daughter Barb and sisters: Edith and Lee.

 

Rudy was born and educated in Calgary. After graduating from Western Canada, he built his own hamburger stand at the Calgary Stampede. Rudy had a successful career in restaurant and hotel management. In Calgary, Rudy opened the Glenmore Inn as General Manager. Rudy volunteered as the Bingo Fundraising Chairman of the Beth Tzedec and Casino General Manager for Jewish Family Service.

 

He was a board member of the Chevra Kadisha and associate member of the Calgary Jewish War Veterans. Rudy was President of B'nai Brith Calgary from 1996 to 1999. He was instrumental in the success of the Gentlemen's Dinner and was an honouree in 2001. Rudy volunteered at Jewish Family Service Shabbat Programs, the Inter-Faith Food Bank, and the B'nai Brith gift basket program to the Calgary Police and Fire Halls on Christmas day.


Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Interment following at Beth Tzedec Memorial Park (123 Shalom Way SW, Calgary, AB).
