Obituary of Karl-Heinz Hindemith

August 8, 1931 – Gliwice, Germany

January 2, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Karl-Heinz Hindemith of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the age of 92.

Karl-Heinz was born in Gliwice, Germany. After working several jobs in construction, he decided to become a Bricklayer. He then attended NAIT in Edmonton and later became a member of the Bricklayer Union. He worked for 40 years in his trade.

Karl-Heinz enjoyed fishing, photography and listening to/recording his favorite music. He was proud of building his three brick homes and providing for a beautiful family. In his spare time he was able to brick his son’s and daughter's houses. Karl-Heinz enjoyed playing soccer in his younger years and later loved following and watching soccer and tennis on TV. His most memorable vacations were going fishing at Lake McGregor with the family every summer when the children were young. Karl-Heinz will be most remembered for his photo and video recording of his family's life.

Karl-Heinz was the beloved husband of Anna Hindemith, the loving father of son Ron (Saletta), and daughter Andrea (Andrew). He was also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Marisa, Julianna, Nicholas, Mitchell, and Rosanna.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Boniface German Catholic Church (1923 Broadview Road N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the parish hall at the church. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Karl-Heinz’s family at here. Graveside service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery. 

Thank you to Bethany Care Center Staff, the many nurses and doctors at the Foothills Hospital, and most of all our immediate family for their support in the final moments of his life.

In living memory of Karl-Heinz Hindemith, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
