Condolences
Dear Jarat and Nicholas, I was shocked and immensely saddened by Yonnie`s death. She and your father were very dear friends full of wisdom and humour. I remember our friendship both in Tanzania and Calgary as a golden time even though we lost touch recently, she was never out of my mind. Please accept my condolences.
I met Yonnie through a mutual friend at the Calgary Farmers Market, years ago. She was always kind and so vibrant. I always enjoyed our conversations. Having left Calgary a decade ago, we reconnected this past year and it was lovely. She was a beautiful soul who lived an amazing life and who will be missed dearly. I shall forever think of her when I come across “The Little Prince”. My deepest sympathies to her family.
Happily, I met Yonnie at the old Calgary Farmers Market quite some years ago. Every Saturday, I looked forward to having a coffee and a yak with her. During the school year when I worked out of town we meet for lunch in the summer. Between we'd email catching up on 'corrie' and the goings on at the market. I will miss that but I will be forever grateful for the friendship we shared and her kind words. Thanks Yonnie.
My being 3 years younger, Yonnie was like an elder sister to me whenever we visited Richmond. I have fond memories of the card and board games we played and, when there were the large Christmas gatherings of relatives - ranging from the latest grandchild to our Great Aunts and Uncles - Postman's Knock and my favourite 'Murder in the Dark' when we hid together throughout the house. Nearby Kew Gardens, was our playground in the Summer and when we met 2 years ago she reminded me when, at the end of the war, being encouraged by a gardener to punch out the waxed paper windows of the Glass Houses to be replaced by glass. When Yonnie married and moved abroad we kept in contact and it was not until 1962, that there was a knock on my Oxford College door and she burst in exclaiming 'I've found my father!'; he was just a street away- i was the envy of the college, her not having lost her appearance of her modelling days. In recent years i gave been grateful to Donna for bringing us together when Yonnie visited and refreshed my very happy memories of our younger days.
Nicholas and Jarat and for all of us who loved Yonnie so much it is so sad to think that we wont be able to hear her chuckle again.
She was very happy to have her 2 precious sons close to her during the recent holiday. The poem that she left us with is so very special. Thank you Yonnie for that!

Yonnie was such a kind and lovely soul and when I was a young boy I wished that she was my mother because she was home with her kids where as my mother was a very busy GP
