Obituary of Holly Lynn White
December 24, 1976 – January 4, 2024
Holly White, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 47. She is at rest after having battled severe diabetes with multiple associated medical complications for many years.
Holly was born in Stephenville, NL to Theodore (Dick) and Darlene White. She grew up by the ocean in beautiful St. George’s, NL.
After completing her post-secondary education, she moved to Calgary, AB, in 1998.
In 2001, she met the love of her life, Nick Gartner. Holly and Nick quickly started living together and fifteen years later in 2016, they married. They enjoyed their lives together sharing in their love for one another, music, comedy, cooking, and gardening as well as their beloved cats Grimace and Mo-Al Nudding.
Holly was a fun, creative, unique soul, to know her was to love her. She was funny, quirky, and caring. She had many passions including music, singing, creating, gardening, and cooking but was proudest of her stand-up comedy. She was also dedicated to her indigenous heritage and cherished it as an important part of her life, she returned to school as an adult to take indigenous studies and continued focus on her ongoing pursuit of learning the Mi’kmaw language.
Holly will be most remembered for her ability to light up a room and make people laugh.
Besides her loving husband, Nick, Holly is survived by her mother, Darlene White, St. John’s, NL; two sisters, Stephanie White-Downey (Glen Downey), Airdrie, AB; Susan White (Tim Galarneau), Goulds, NL; mother-in-law, Shirley Nizynski (Henry), Calgary, AB; father-in-law, Lorne Gartner (Maria), Calgary, AB; Brother-in-law, Kelsey Gartner (Erin), Calgary, AB; sister-in-law, Joelle Lindsey (Keith), Calgary, AB. Her beloved nephews and nieces, Kaeleb, Theo, TJ, Eden, Beau, Nolan, and Drew. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. Holly was predeceased by her father Theodore (Dick) White.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish hall at the church.Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Holly's service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Holly’s family here.
