Obituary of Nancy Carolyn Latta

April 2, 1932 – Kansas, United States of America

January 4, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Carolyn Latta, on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 91 years, with her loving family at her side.

Nancy was born on April 2, 1932, into a farm family in Kansas. She was half Irish, half Swedish, but 100% Kansan and 100% Canadian. Predeceased by her loving husband Bill, she will be sorely missed by her children, Bill (Margaret), Linda (Barry), Leslie, and Tom (Jody). She was an exceptional grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Anna (Scott), Lauren (Reid), Evan (Emily), Will (Mikayla), Emily (Mike), Madison and Kennedy; plus, her great-grandchildren, Ella, Victoria, Ivy, Lucy, Liam, Ashling, and Fiadh. She is also survived by an extended community of family and friends, including Gerry and Del Reid and Rick Guthrie.

Family gatherings were extremely important to her. Two years ago, she treated her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to a long weekend at the Banff Springs Hotel. More recently, she treated her immediate children to a long weekend at Pacific Sands Resort on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Devoted to her husband Bill and in support of his military service and academic career, she travelled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. All of these experiences shaped the person who was known and loved by many.

As per her wishes, there will be no service, however, there will be a small celebration of life later in the Spring. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Nancy’s family here. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in Nancy’s honour, to Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids at https://www.BB4CK.org.

In living memory of Nancy Latta, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
