February 24, 1931 – Fonzaso, Italy
January 5, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Angelo Giacomin, husband of over 65 years, to Valentina Maria (nee Da Barp) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the age of 92 years.
Angelo was born on February 24, 1931, in Fonzaso, Belluno, Italy to Guilio and Margerita (nee De Lazzer) Giacomin who preceded him in death. Angelo was also predeceased by his brother Giovanni Giacomin of Calgary, AB.
Along with his wife, Angelo is also survived by his son Roberto, daughter Myrna; two grandchildren Jonah and Oriana; his sister Esterina (residing in Mugnai, Italy); two nephews and a niece.
Before emigrating to Canada, in 1957, Angelo was part of the Italian Army Mountain infantry known as the Alpini. When Angelo immigrated to Canada, he decided not to follow his relatives to the US and stayed in Alberta. He worked in many different fields, in the early years of his arrival, but his main trade, for many years, was as a carpenter.
Angelo was an avid storyteller, loved to joke, a great dancer, an outdoorsman, going hunting, fishing, and camping. In his later years was more into his garden “the tomato guy”, and woodworking. He had incredible patience to create many amazing things for hours on end in his greenhouse.
