Obituary of Ronald Glenn Hunt

Ron Hunt of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, January 7, 2024, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

Ron was born in Taber, AB on September 17, 1957, and lived there until his family moved to St. Albert, AB in 1971. He then moved to Calgary in 1988 where he lived until his passing. Early in life, Ron loved the outdoors, including many family camping trips. He was a gifted cook and a forever avid fan of the Edmonton Oliers and Edmonton Elks, whom he loved. He also loved sports. He was a great skater and in 1975 was a supervisor and leader for the Taber Golden Suns/Hull Hockey School.  This was a source of great pride and joy for Ron. His love of sports also led him to play in both baseball and pool leagues in Calgary.

Whether working in the food, retail, or machine industry, Ron’s attention to detail was meticulous. In the later years of his employment, he was proud to receive the award for “five years no lost time accidents".

Ron was known for his keen wit, quiet sense of humour, and his warm smile. Above all, his greatest achievement was that of being a proud and loving dad to his only child, Tasha, whom he affectionately called “Shorty”.

He is survived by his daughter Tasha Hunt (Jody Linfield), mother Joan, sisters, Terry (Mike), Joanne (Scott), and Wendy (Barrie); his five nephews, one niece, and their partners, and one great-niece, and two great-nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the South Health Campus in Calgary, Rapid Access Unit, and especially Dr. Elena (Pulmonologist) for the excellent care and compassion during Ron’s final days.

A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre.
